Cost of Attendance
The cost of attendance is made up of direct (tuition and fees) and indirect costs (housing, board, books and supplies, personal and miscellaneous, transportation, and loan origination fee).
Special Circumstances/Appeal Process
As a result of extenuating circumstances, a student’s current financial situation may not be reflected on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). UB will make adjustments to information submitted on the FAFSA form on a student-by-student basis if a determination is made that adjustments are warranted.
Situations that warrant an appeal:
- Change in employment status/Significant income reduction
- Medical expenses not covered by insurance
- Change in marital status
- Death of spouse
To request a special circumstances review, please contact a financial aid advisor and be prepared to supply supporting documentation.
Budget Increase
The estimated cost of attendance (budget) used to determine your financial aid eligibility includes tuition and mandatory fees based on your enrollment plans, as well as average amounts for standard educational expenses such as room and board. Also included are books, supplies, local transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. If your actual expenses are higher than the amount used in your current budget or you have other expenses not included in the budget, you may request a budget increase.
To request a budget increase, please contact a financial aid advisor at 104 Harriman Hall and be prepared to supply supporting documentation if eligible. Examples:
- Dependent child care expense
- Additional course-related expenses (fees, equipment, books, etc.)
- Mandatory Student Health Insurance
- Rent exceeding the standard budget
- Computer purchase and related computer software (one time)
- Transportation expenses
Information subject to change without notice due to changes in federal, state and/or institutional rules and regulations.
