Applying for Financial Aid

The University at Buffalo utilizes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which asks for basic information to determine your eligibility for all the financial aid programs sponsored by the Federal Government. Remember to apply for a U.S. Department of Education PIN. This PIN is your electronic signature used to sign your online FAFSA.

The FAFSA is also utilized by The University at Buffalo to determine some departmental and/or institutional scholarships, and loans.

Complete and submit the FAFSA every year after January 1. (UB’s priority filing date is March 1st) The federal (Title IV) school code for the University at Buffalo is 002837.

Financial Aid Eligibility

You must meet all of the following criteria to receive federal financial aid:

Priority FAFSA Filing Date

You must submit the FAFSA by March 1 to be considered for campus-based funds, such as Federal Work Study, Perkins, EDPS (Economically Disadvantaged First Professional Study Program), and Health Professions Loans.

Important: Don’t wait until you’re accepted to UB or until your tax return is completed—file early! You may use estimated tax information on your FAFSA, and then make corrections to your online FAFSA once the actual tax information is available.

The Student Aid Report (SAR)

Your SAR summarizes the data from your FAFSA and indicates your official Expected Family Contribution. If University at Buffalo is listed on the SAR, we have received the same information electronically. Please review the SAR for accuracy. If corrections are required, follow the instructions and submit them electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Information subject to change without notice due to changes in federal, state and/or institutional rules and regulations.
