Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, either when initially completing a FAFSA or by using the corrections functionality of FOTW (FAFSA on the Web), provides the fastest, easiest, and most secure solution for meeting verification requirements. UB students selected for verification who retrieve and transfer their income tax return and/or parent’s information unchanged using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool are considered to have verified the FAFSA IRS information (Adjusted Gross Income, taxes paid, and the applicable untaxed income items and education credits, if any). However, if changes were made to the transferred information, or if the institution has reason to believe that the information transferred is inaccurate, the applicant must provide an IRS 2012 Tax Return Transcript (PDF). You may also visit your local IRS office (in Buffalo, located at 130 S. Elmwood Ave., 14202). IRS Tax Return Transcripts submitted to the institution for verification do not need a signature by the tax filer.
Information is subject to change without notice due to changes in federal, state and/or institutional rules and regulations. Students must complete a FAFSA every year. Students must be making satisfactory academic progress to continue to receive financial aid.
