Graduate Fellowships and Scholarships

Fellowships and scholarships are designed to attract and support graduate students who have exceptional academic records and potential. Such support is intended to enable the student to better concentrate on coursework and/or research.

Each year, the Graduate School makes funding available to the deans to support outstanding graduate students. In turn, deans have developed fellowship deployment strategies tailored to the specific discipline and academic needs of their students. You should contact your academic department concerning nomination deadlines and criteria for these prestigious awards.

Contact the Graduate School for additional graduate scholarship and fellowship opportunities available.

A fellowship, much like a scholarship, affects your total eligibility for aid. At the start of the awarding process, your total cost of education is determined. Next, we subtract any fellowships/scholarships/additional resources from this amount. The remaining balance represents your total eligibility for financial aid. It is possible for graduate students to be offered and accept a fellowship after financial aid funds have been accepted and/or released to you. When this occurs, your financial aid eligibility will be re-evaluated and adjusted, if needed, even if you have already accepted/received awards.

Administered Awards for Graduate Study

Students who may be eligible for the nation's most competitive fellowships and scholarships, which often require the university's nomination, should review the online information and contact Elizabeth Colucci, UB's Coordinator of Nationally Competitive Fellowships & Scholarships, for assistance. More information for interested applicants.

External Funding Opportunities

Please visit UB Research Opportunities for more information about these opportunities. Many degree programs also have their own scholarship funds to award to graduate and professional students at their discretion. These awards vary in amount and eligibility. Students should communicate with their academic department of interest concerning scholarship opportunities.

Information is subject to change without notice due to changes in federal, state and/or institutional rules and regulations. Students must complete a FAFSA every year. Students must be making satisfactory academic progress to continue to receive financial aid.
