Federal Perkins Loans

A Federal Perkins Loan is a low-interest (five percent) loan for undergraduates with financial need. You must be a half-time student to be eligible. Your financial need will be determined by your FAFSA information.

After you have been offered and accepted a Federal Perkins Loan, you will be required to complete an electronic Master Promissory Note (e-MPN) and entrance counseling. You may do so at SUNY Student Loan Service Center’s website. The process will take approximately 20 minutes.

First-time borrowers may be prompted to print and mail your MPN to UB. If you are notified that your information cannot be authenticated when you log in, please continue to complete your entrance counseling online. You will be able to print a PDF version of your MPN at the conclusion of your counseling that can be submitted to our office in person or by mail. Email is not a secure form of communication.

The SUNY Student Loan Service Center’s website also offers you the opportunity to review account information online, select payment options, and obtain benefit forms. The website also provides the most up-to-date information on benefits and policies governing Perkins loans.

Information is subject to change without notice due to changes in federal, state and/or institutional rules and regulations. Students must complete a FAFSA every year. Students must be making satisfactory academic progress to continue to receive financial aid.
